4 maritime ports asked to hoist cautionary signal

The maritime ports of the country were asked to hoist a cautionary signal on Tuesday as a depression over the bay is likely to move closer to the coast and intensify further, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said. 

"The depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards and now lies over southwest Bay and adjoining area," reads a BMD special weather bulletin. 

The depression lies 1,995 kilometres away from both Cox's Bazar and Mongla ports. It is likely to move west-northwesterly direction and intensify further, the bulletin added. 

BMD warned the sea will remain rough near the depression centre. In light of the situation, maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra were advised to keep hoisted the Distant Cautionary Signal no. One (R) One. 

All fishing vessels were advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution.
