SC denies bail petition of Halmark chairman Jesmine

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has discarded a bail petition filed by Hallmark chairman Jesmine Islam.

The Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed passed an order on Thursday.

Senior lawyer Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajol moved for the Hallmark chairman while advocate Asif Hussain stood for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC filed a case against Jesmine Islam for her alleged connection in embezzlement of Tk85,87,00000 from the state-run Janata Bank by opening fake letter of credit (LC).

On March 10 in 2019, the High Court granted bail to Jesmine Islam.

However, on June 16 in 2019, the Appellate Division rejected the bail following a plea by the ACC.

The Appellate Division also asked Jesmine Islam to surrender before the high court within four weeks.

Later on August 30 in 2022, the High Court rejected the bail appeal of Jesmine Islam.

Lastly, she filled bail plea with the Supreme Court against the refusal order of the High Court.
