Verdict of death references and appeals on August 21 grenade attack Sunday

The High Court is set to deliver its verdict on Sunday on the death references and appeals of the August 21 grenade attack cases.

The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain will announce the judgement.

The death references and appeals were included in Sunday's cause list of the HC bench.

A total of 24 people were killed and about 300 injured in grenade attacks on an Awami League rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka on August 21, 2004.

The then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped the attack.

Following the casualties, the cases were filed.

On October 10, 2018, a Dhaka court sentenced 19 people to death in the two cases filed in connection with the grenade attacks.

Former BNP state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar was one of them.

The court gave life imprisonment to nineteen others, including BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

Besides, 11 people were handed different terms in prison.
