Man arrested over murder of woman on Dhaka-Mawa expressway

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found on the Dhaka-Mawa expressway on Saturday. 

Police arrested the accused Touhid Sheikh Tonmoy from the Ilsha area of Bhola on Sunday night. It was found that Tonmoy was romantically involved with the victim Shahida Islam Rafa alias Shahida Aktar.

Based on Tonmoy's confessional statement, police recovered a revolver, the weapon used in the murder, from a pond at the capital's South Keraniganj area, on Monday morning. DB OC Md Istiak Russel confirmed the matter to the Daily Samakal. 

Police are trying to recover Shahida Aktar's looted belongings. Tonmoy has confessed to the murder in primary interrogation. He is a resident of the capital's Wari area.   

Locals found Shahida's body at the Dogacchi Service Lane area on the Dhaka-Mawa expressway at around 8:30 am on Saturday and informed the police, who recovered the body. 

Police said 5 bullet shells were also found near the body. It is assumed that after killing her, the body was dropped from a running car. 

According to eyewitnesses, Shahida was seen walking next to Tonmoy on the expressway at dawn on Saturday. Her bullet-riddle body a few hours later.

Jarina Begum, mother of the deceased, filed the case on Sunday. Tonmoy was named as the prime accused in the case.
