Bangladesh mission attack in Tripura: 7 detained, action against 4 cops

Action was taken against four police officers and seven people were arrested in connection with the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in India's Agartala, local police said on Tuesday.

Three sub-inspectors were suspended and a deputy superintendent of police was 'closed', asking him to report to the police headquarters, for alleged negligence in duty, SP of West Tripura Kiran Kumar told PTI news agency.

The Superintendent of Police for West issued a closure order for Kanti Nath Ghosh, Assistant Commandant of SSF Organization, directing him to report immediately to the SP office. In a separate order, three Sub-Inspectors- Dilu Jamatia, Debabrata Sinha, and Joynal Hossain-have been placed under suspension. These suspensions are pending departmental proceedings for alleged negligence in duty on December 2 at the Assistant High Commission Office of Bangladesh, under Rule 10(1) of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1965.

Among the arrested are- Jhutan Das of Border Golchakkar, Ujjwal Das of Dashamighat, Diptanil Bhowmik of Abhoynagar, Surja Das of Amtali area in the outskirts of Agartala city, Jhulan Malakar of Belonia in South Tripura, Pradip Saha of 79 Tilla area in Agartala and Alak Majumder of SDO Chowmuhani in West Tripura.

"A suo moto case was registered at the New Capital Complex (NCC) police station over the incident. Seven persons have been arrested so far for their alleged involvement in the incident," SP Kiran Kumar said. 

Police have already begun an investigation into the incident, and will take steps as per the law, he added. Security was beefed up at the consulate following the incident, and CRPF and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel were deployed, the SP said.

Condemning the incident, Chief Minister Manik Saha said, "During the protest rally, a group of youth tried to barge into the Assistant High Commission office of Bangladesh in Agartala. I condemned the incident. Peaceful protest can be allowed but such behaviour is not acceptable."
