Prime accused of lawyer Alif murder arrested

Police have arrested the prime accused in the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram from Kishoreganj on Wednesday. 

Chandan Barman, 38, was arrested from the Bhairab Rail Station at around 11:40pm. A team of police led by Bhairab Police Station Officer in Charge Shahin Miah made the arrest, Kishoreganj Additional Police Superintendent (Crime) Md Al Amin Hossain confirmed.

Police have arrived from Chattogram to take custody of Chandan, OC Shahin Miah said. 

Lawyer Alif was killed, while several others were injured in the attack and clash between members of law enforcement agencies and supporters of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das on November 26.

A murder case was filed against 31 named persons and 10 to 15 unidentified individuals over the murder. Saiful's father Jamal Uddin filed the case with Kotwali Police Station. 

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) earlier arrested six people in connection with the murder. 

The CMP also arrested 21 people for vandalism and assaults on police during clashes on Tuesday.
