Lawyer Alif murder: Chandan, Ripon remanded

A court has placed Chandan Das on a seven-day and Ripon Das on a five-day remand over the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram. 

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam passed the orders after hearing on Friday afternoon, Kotowali Police Station Officer in Charge Abdul Karim confirmed. 

Chandan Das, the primary accused in the lawyer Saiful murder case, was arrested from Bhairab Rail Station in Kishoreganj on Wednesday. The other accused, Ripon, was arrested from Kotowali's Bandel Road area the same day. 

Lawyer Alif was killed, while several others were injured in the attack and clash between members of law enforcement agencies and supporters of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das on November 26.

A murder case was filed against 31 named persons and 10 to 15 unidentified individuals over the murder. Saiful's father Jamal Uddin filed the case with Kotwali Police Station. 

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) earlier arrested six people in connection with the murder. The CMP also arrested 21 people for vandalism and assaults on police during clashes on Tuesday.
