Ex-secretary Shah Kamal on 2-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Shah Kamal, former senior secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, on a two-day remand in a murder case.

The case was lodged over the murder of Juba Dal leader Shamim.

 Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order on Monday.

Earlier in the day, police produced Shah Kamal before the court and pleaded to place him a seven-day remand in the case.

On August 17, Shah Kamal was arrested from the capital's Mohakhali area.

According to the case documents, Awami League activists, with the help of police, attacked the BNP's rally in Naya Paltan on 28 October 2023, killing Shamim on the spot.

The case was filed with the capital's Paltan Police Station on 24 September.
