Papia Sarwar on life support

Ekushey Padak-winning Rabindra Sangeet artiste Papia Sarwar has been placed on ventilator support.

Actress Shampa Reza, Papia Sarwar's niece, confirmed the media about the deterioration of Papia’s physical condition. 

She has been suffering from cancer for several years. 

Born in Barishal, Papia Sarwar was a student of the Department of Zoology at the University of Dhaka.

Later, in 1973, she earned a degree in Rabindra Sangeet at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan.

Papia Sarwar founded a music group called Geetsudha in 1996.

She received the Rabindra Award from Bangla Academy in 2013. 

Papia Sarwar was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2021 for her outstanding contribution to music.
