Husband, wife among three killed in Rajshahi road crash

Three members of the same family, including husband and wife, were killed in a bus accident on the Rajshahi-Natore highway in Shibpur area of Puthia upazila in Rajshahi on Saturday afternoon.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Paba Highway Police Station Firoz Hossain said the victims were returning home riding on motorcycle.

The deceased are Abu Hanif, 27, a businessman from Bhadra village in Puthia, his wife Fatema Khatun, 22, daughter of Sayed Ali from Palopara village, and Fatema’s sister Yuthi Khatun, 14.

Fatema was an honors student at Rajshahi Women's College and Yuthi was a ninth-grade student at Palopara High School.

Mizanur Rahman, the cousin of the deceased Fatema and Yuthi, said, “Hanif was returning on a motorcycle with Fatema and Yuthi after shopping in Rajshahi city. When they reached Shibpur in Puthia at 2:30 pm, a bus ran over them and ran away, leaving Hanif and Yuthi died on the spot.”

Fatema died after being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he added.
