Trainee doctors block Shahbagh intersection demanding wage hike

Post-graduate trainee doctors under the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS) have blocked the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka to demand a wage hike. 

They have blocked the roads and also went on a work strike from about 1:30pm on Sunday, Shahbagh Police Station Officer in Charge Mohammad Khalid Mansur said. 

Previously, the trainee doctors had given the government a deadline of 12pm on Sunday to issue a gazette notification raising their wages. As the condition was not fulfilled, they have taken to the streets. 

However, the health ministry has asked for a meeting with a six-member delegation of trainee doctors, Post Graduate Private Trainee Doctors Association Chairman Dr Zabir Hossain said. A delegation will be sent to the meeting.
