Adviser Hassan Ariff laid to rest in Mirpur

The interim government's Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser AF Hassan Ariff was laid to rest at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Mirpur on Monday.

The burial was held at 10:36 am in the presence of his family members and the government's advisers, officials and staff. 

Hassan Ariff died at the age of 83 from heart disease at Dhaka's LabAid Hospital at 3:10pm on Friday. A one-day state mourning was declared on Monday at his death. 

AF Hassan Ariff was sworn in as an adviser to the Interim Government on August 8. He served as Attorney General from 2001 to 2005. Hassan Ariff also served as an adviser to the caretaker government’s ministries of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Land and Religion.

Born in Kolkata in 1941, AF Hassan Ariff completed his education at St. Xavier’s College and obtained his graduation and LLB degrees from the University of Calcutta. He started his career as a lawyer in the Calcutta High Court in 1967 and later joined the Bangladesh High Court.

He has worked on foreign investment, arbitration, commercial arbitration, corporate law, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution.
