Arrest warrants issued against 5 including ex-MP Saiful

The International Crime Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants against five people including former Dhaka-19 constituency MP Saiful Islam, over the incident of burning corpses at Ashulia of Dhaka during the mass uprising. 

Aside from the ex-MP, the other four people are police officers, ICT Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said. However, he did not disclose their identity. 

The two-member tribunal led by Justice Golam Mortaja Mojumder gave the order on Tuesday. The justice also directed the five to be arrested quickly and handed over to the tribunal. January 26 was fixed to submit a report regarding the arrest. 

After the order, Tajul Islam said, "Five students were shot to death in Ashulia on August 5. Afterwards, their corpses were carried to a van and burned to make sure no one could find out."

He also said, "Our probe is underway. Arrest warrants will be sought against other officials if they are found to be involved in this incident."
