Trainee doctors block Shahbagh intersection again

Post-graduate trainee doctors under the banner of Doctors Movement for Justice (DMJ) have again blocked the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka to demand a wage hike. 

They gathered at Shahbagh at around 11:30am on Sunday.  

Trainee doctors claimed that they've been holding demonstrations for a long time. They have taken to the streets because they did not receive any solution. 

Previously, the trainee doctors had given the government a deadline of 12pm on Sunday (December 22) to issue a gazette notification raising their wages. As the condition was not fulfilled, they had blocked the Shahbagh intersection. 

After a delegation of trainee doctors met with the health ministry, a notification was issued raising their wages from Tk 25,000 to Tk 30,000. However, the doctors declined the offer and decided to continue their demonstrations.

A large number of police members were deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.
