One child out of every 8 people dead in dengue

In this year, 573 people died of dengue in Bangladesh. Out of them, 64 were younger than 15 years of age. This means out of all the people who died from dengue, one in eight was a child. Moreover, 51.2 per cent of the dead were women, and 48.8 per cent were men. 

Specialists assume that the higher number of women and child deaths was due to late detection and treatment. They also suggested drives to eradicate the Aedes mosquito from the start of the new year to lower dengue, zika and chikungunya. 

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, 1,01,130 people took treatment for dengue at hospitals across the country this year. 99,902 of them returned home, and 720 still remain under treatment.
