Judiciary Reform Commission's term extended till Jan 31

The government has extended the timeline of Judiciary Reform Commission (JRC) till January 31.

A gazette notification was issued by the Cabinet Division on January 2.

According to the notification, the tenure of the commission formed on October 3, has been extended till January 31, 2025.

The order will come into effect immediately, it said.

The government formed the commission headed by retired justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominir Rahman to propose necessary reforms to make country's judiciary independent, neutral and effective.

The other members of the commission are retired justice Emdadul Haque, retired justice Farid Ahmed Shibli, former district and sessions judge Syed Aminul Islam, former district and sessions judge Masdar Hossain, senior advocate Tanim Hussain Shawon, Dhaka University associate professor of law Kazi Mahfuzul Haque Supan, and a student representative.

The government asked the commission to open its operation from the day of its formation and submit its report to the Chief Adviser by next 90 days.
