Road accidents took 8,543 lives in 2024

Bangladesh witnessed 8,543 deaths from 6,359 road mishaps in 2024. As many as 12,608 people were injured in the accidents, according to the latest research by the Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS).

The findings were disclosed at a BJKS press briefing held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in Dhaka on Satuday. 

The mishaps involving motorbikes topped last year’s list with 2,329 accidents. These accidents killed 2,570 people and injured 3,151 people. 

In 2023, 7,902 people died from 6,261 accidents. Therefore, this year deaths from road mishaps increased by more than 8 per cent.
