8,500 lives lost in 2024 road accidents

Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity said at least 8,543 people were killed and 12,608 injured in 6,359 road crashes across the country in 2024.

The organization revealed the report regarding the road crashes and fatalities in Bangladesh last year.

According to the report, a 1.54 percent raise in crashes, a 7.50 percent increase in deaths, and a 17.73 percent rush forward in injuries compared to 2023.

Out of total crashes, motorcycle accidents accounted for 36.62 percent, resulting in 2,570 deaths and 3,151 injuries in 2,329 incidents.

Md Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, secretary general of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, disclosed the data during a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity in Segunbagicha on Saturday.

He said that the Samity compiled the annual report on the basis of media reports.
