Reovirus detected in the country for the first time

The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) has detected Reovirus in the body of five people in the country for the first time. 

None of the infected people faced any complications and returned home after treatment. There is no need to panic over the matter, the Health Services Division said on Friday. 

IEDCR Director Dr Tahmina Shirin said many people get infected with the Nipah virus every year after drinking raw date palm juice. IEDCR was testing 48 people who exhibited such symptoms. None of them were infected with the Nipah virus. However, five of them were infected with Reovirus.
