CPD suggests national minimum wage board for labour sector

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has suggested announcing a national minimum wage board applicable to all industries, including those of the informal sector. 

A number of such suggestions were made at a discussion meeting at the CPD office in Dhanmondi on Sunday. The meeting was titled 'Reforms in Workers' Livelihood, Workplace Safety and Rights related Issues- An Agenda for the Interim Government." A report with the same title was presented at the meeting. 

The report was prepared in collaboration with Christian Aid (CA). It draws on CPD's studies conducted in the past with partners including CA, ILO, UNDO, GIZ etc. Insights were also taken from several national and international research. 

CPD prepared the paper to reform the agenda for the interim government for the betterment of workers' well-being and rights. It will be placed to the Labour Reform Commission for necessary consideration. 

The paper includes findings and recommendations into eight categories-  wage and appropriate remuneration, occupational health and safety, right to organise, participation, collective bargaining, social insurance, industrial disputes, dispute settlement and justice, child, adolescent and forced labour, equality, non-discrimination, and unique community, and right to work, employment opportunities, assurance, inclusion, and others.
