JnU students call off hunger strike

Students of Jagannath University (JnU) have called off their hunger strike after 35 hours after authorities assured them of fulfilling two of their three-point demand.

They, however, said that they would continue shutdown, class boycott.

AKM Rakib, a student of the Department of Botany at Jagannath University, announced the withdrawal of the hunger strike in front of the secretariat at a press conference at 7 pm on Monday.

Around 7:00pm, the education ministry issued a new notice including two of their demands.

Their demands are the handover of the second campus project to the army for finishing timely, the provision of short-term accommodation for students, and the arrangement of a housing allowance for at least 70 percent of students until temporary accommodation is available.

Earlier in the day, the protesters took position in front of the Secretariat from 4:45pm as the previous notice issued by the ministry was vague.
