Court orders seizure of tax files of Nowfel, Sima Hamid

A Dhaka court has ordered to seize tax files of former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, and Sima Hamid, wife of former state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders, allowing two separate petitions, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the case documents, Nowfel is accused of amassing illegal wealth of TK 2.27 crore and suspicious transactions of Tk113.89 crore through 41 bank accounts.

He is also accused of transferring and transforming the money and properties to hide his source of income.

On the other hand, the ACC alleged that Sima amassed illegal wealth of Tk6.98 crore and keep those under her possession. She is also accused of making suspicious transactions of Tk   12.77 crore through her 20 bank accounts.
