Legal action against illegal foreigners after Jan 31: Jahangir

The government will take legal action against the foreigners who are staying and working illegally in Bangladesh after January 31 next, said Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

The adviser said the government will also take action against those who are employing them.

As per the law, a work permit is mandatory to give appointment to any foreigner, he added.

Jahangir was talking to journalists after the meeting on law and order at the Secretariat on Monday. 

He said that there were 49,226 foreigners living illegally in Bangladesh and the number has reduced to 33,648 as per latest registration done so far.
