Giasuddin Al Mamun acquitted in arms case

The High Court (HC) has acquitted businessman Giasuddin Al-Mamun of all the charges in an arms case.

A High Court division bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Nasreen Akter pronounced the judgment, allowing an appeal filed by Mamun.

Senior Advocate Mohammad Sayeed Ahmed and Advocate Sabbir Hamza Chowdhury moved the appeal before the court while Deputy Attorney General Sultana Akter Rubi stood for the state.

On March 26, 2007, police filed the case with Cantonment Police Station in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-2 convicted Mamun sentencing him to 10-year in jail on July 3, 2007. 

In the same year, Mamun filed the appeal against his conviction.
