Arrest warrant issued against Pori Moni

An arrest warrant was issued against actress Pori Moni on Sunday in a murder attempt case lodged by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud. 

Dhaka Judicial Magistrate's Court-1 Mohammad Zunayed issued the warrant after ordering to frame charges against her in the court. The court also dismissed her petition, seeking time for her non-appearance before it, Pori Moni's advocate Nilanjona Rifat Surovi confirmed. 

The court also framed charges against her in her absence in the case.

Another accused Junayed Karim Jimmy alias Jimmy also faces an arrest warrant in the case.

On Saturday, Pori Moni was scheduled to attend an event at Tangail's Kalihati. However, local Muslim residents took a stance against her presence. They even announced several programmes and protests,  leading to the cancellation of the event.

Later the same night, Pori Moni expressed her frustration regarding the event cancellation in a post on Facebook. 

She wrote, "How is it possible to stay silent! It seems [we are] not independent. Why should artists face so much hindrance? Feeling insecure! Why are we not safe in an independent country!"

Referring to two other incidents, Pori Moni said Mehzabin, and Porshi were also harassed before. 

"What are they trying to prove in the name of religion? What else is there to say?... Ban all cinema/entertainment in this country! All of us have to bear the responsibilities," her post added.
