BB urges businessmen to support for sustainable devt of economy

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur on Sunday urged businessmen to provide necessary support and cooperation for sustainable development of the economy.

"Bangladesh Bank is working intensively to ensure discipline in the financial sector," he said while exchanging views with representatives of the Bangladesh Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at BB headquarters in the city. 

FBCCI Administrator Md Hafizur Rahman, former FBCCI President Mir Nasir Hossain and former FBCCI Vice-President Abul Kashem Haider, among others, were present on the occasion. 

During the meeting, the FBCCI made several recommendations to BB for development of the country's economy by providing policy support to unintentional defaulters, controlling inflation, maintaining stable interest rates and maintaining a normal dollar supply.

In addition, the FBCCI urged the central bank to take necessary steps to ensure more business-friendly environment in the country.

In the meeting, business leaders also placed special emphasis on bringing interest rates to single digits to maintain the competitiveness of local industries.
