Sagar-Runi murder probe deferred for the 116th time

A Dhaka court has fixed March 2, 2025, for submitting the probe report on the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

This is the 116th extension of the deadline for submission of the probe in the sensational murder case.

On January 8, another court gave the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) permission to interrogate former Maj Gen Ziaul Ahsan and former Police DIG Mashiur Rahman in connection with this case. 

The High Court has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to transfer to investigation of this case from RAB to a high-power task force. The task force was directed to complete the probe and submit a report within the next six months. 

Machranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar and ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were killed on February 11, 2012, in their rented flat at the capital's West Razabazar.

Later, Nowsher Alam Roman, brother of Runi, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in this connection.
