My family also consuming loose soybean oil: commerce adviser

Amid a supply scarcity of bottled soybean oil, Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin said that his family has been consuming non-brand and non-bottled soybean oil.

He was speaking at a city programme, titled "Fair pricing of food commodities: searching market supervision strategies", at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka on Sunday.

“There is no difference between loose and packaged oil -- except for the price. The price of bottled oil is unnecessarily high. So, my entire family and I have been using loose soybean oil,” he told the audience.

He cited that his father and other family members brought home loose oil during his childhood.

“To me, it seems more environment-friendly and cost-effective," he asserted, asking, "So why would I pay extra for packaged oil?"
