Titumir College students withdraw protest

The students of the Government Titumir College have withdrawn their ongoing protest on the assurance that the government will take action on the Titumir University issue within the next seven days.

On Monday night, they withdrew the protest in the presence of Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education Nuruzzaman and Principal of Government Titumir College Professor Shipra Rani Mandal. 

At that time, the principal offered the students on hunger strike packaged mango juice to drink.

The students warned that if the promise made by the Ministry of Education is not implemented within the next seven days, a new programme will be announced later.

Earlier, students of Titumir College blocked the railway line in Mohakhali in the capital on the demand of turning the college into university. In the face of their demands, rail communication with Dhaka was halted for several hours. 

A delegation of the Ministry of Education went to the spot in the evening to discuss with the students over the issue.

The students blocked the railway line at the Mohakhali railway crossing at around 3:45pm, creating immense sufferings to the commuters. Their protest entered into fifth consecutive day today to materialize their demand.
