Dhanmondi-32 vandalism continues Thursday morning

Students and mass people continue to vandalise the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital on Thursday morning. 

Heavy machinery was razing the structure to the ground at around 7:30am. Cranes and excavators were used to demolish the building. Fires were seen in some places. There was also graffiti drawn on several walls. 

Previously, agitated people gathered at the house at around 7:30pm on Wednesday. 

The leaders and activists of the Student Movement Against Discrimination have warned that if Sheikh Hasina gave a speech, Dhanmondi-32 would be bulldozed.  

Students and crowds began gathering in the Dhanmondi 32 area in the afternoon. By evening, a large crowd was seen there and various anti-fascist slogans could be heard.

At one stage, the agitated students and crowds broke the gate of the house at Dhanmondi No. 32 and started vandalizing it.

Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police SN Nazrul Islam said, “We were not aware of such a programme”.
