Travel ban imposed on ex-Gulshan OC Mazharul, wife

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former officer in-charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station Mazharul Islam and his wife Laila Khan over graft allegations.

Granting a plea by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on February 10.

Assistant Director Bishan Ghosh of the ACC filed the plea in the court.

In the plea, the ACC stated that the agency is probing allegations of amassing illegal wealth against the couple.

Mazharul has deposited a huge amount of ill-gotten money in the accounts of his wife and they were trying to flee the country, the plea added.

Mazharul Islam was arrested on September 17 from APBn & Specialized Training Center (ASTC), Khagrachari. He is now behind bars.
