Reform talks with political parties to start Saturday: Adilur Rahman

Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan has said talk with political parties on the matter of reform will start Saturday (February 15). 

He made the remarks while talking to journalists after paying tribute to to martyrs of the anti-autocracy movement in front of the High Court gate in the capital to mark Autocracy Resistance Day on Friday. 

"We want to give the people back their rights. Fascism can no longer rear its head in Bangladesh," the adviser said. 

On this day in 1983, a student movement against military rule was met with indiscriminate police firing, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 protesters. The student movement later escalated into a nationwide anti-autocracy movement.

Police opened fire on a protest rally, killing Jafar, Zainal, Dipali, Kanchan and several others, while many others were injured.

Since then, February 14 has been observed as Autocracy Resistance Day.

Every year, on this occasion, political parties and student organizations pay tribute at the Shiksha Odhikar Chattar (Education Rights Square), near the Education Bhaban intersection.
