Water cannons, batons used to disperse protesting teacher candidates

Police have used batons, tear gas, and water cannons to disperse assistant teacher candidates for government primary schools who were marching towards the Secretariat protesting against a High Court verdict that cancelled their appointments. 

The protesters were barred from marching towards the Secretariat and later removed from the road in front of Shiksha Bhaban near the Secretariat. 

Earlier in the day, they staged a rally in Dhaka's Shahbagh, demanding reinstatement of their recruitment order. 

The protest continues for 11 consecutive days, calling on the government to intervene and overturn the High Court order that nullified their recruitment. 

The High Court cancelled the process of appointing 6,531 assistant teachers for government primary schools in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions on February 6.
