JCD, anti-discriminatory students clashes at KUET leave 50 injured

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and the Anti-discrimination Student Movement clashed at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on Tuesday, leaving at least 50 people injured.

The clashes took place over demands to ban student politics on the KUET campus, according to campus sources.

The clashes began on Tuesday afternoon and continued till evening, the sources added.

On Monday, JCD activists distributed leaflets at KUET demanding resume student politics on the campus as the authorities banned student politics after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year.

In response, the general students led by the students of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement brought out processions chanting slogans in favour of keeping student politics banned.

At one stage, the parties engaged in chase and counter-chase, spreading it outside KUET campus.

So far, over 50 people have been injured and are receiving treatment at various clinics and hospitals of the divisional city. 

Meanwhile, a joint force started working to bring the situation under control.
