Anisul, Mamun remanded in mass uprising killing cases

A court has placed former law minister Anisul Huq and former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on different terms of remand in separate cases lodged over killings that took place during the student-led July-August mass uprising.

Of the two, Anisul was placed on a three-day remand in the Wasim Sheikh murder case filed at the capital's Jatrabari Police Station, while he was placed on another three-day remand in a case lodged with the same police station over the murder of Zihad Hossain.

The former police chief Mamum, on the other hand, was placed on a three-day remand in the Zihad Hossain murder case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the orders on Wednesday as police produced Anisul and Mamun before the court and pleaded to place them on a five-day remand each in the case lodged over the murder of Zihad Hossain. Police later pleaded to place Anisul Huq on another three-day remand in the Wasim Sheikh murder case.

Anisul Huq was arrested from the Sadarghat area on August 13, 2024, as he along with Salman F Rahman was trying to flee the capital through the waterways.
