Earthquake hits India, tremors felt in Bangladesh

An earthquake was felt in several regions of the country, including the capital, at around 11:36 am on Wednesday. 

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department's (BMD) Seismic Observatory and Research Centre Official in Charge Md Rubaiyat Kabir confirmed the matter. 

He said the earthquake was mid-level, measuring 5.6 magnitude on the Richter Scale. No information of damage was found immediately. 

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake originated 44km east of Yairipok town, close to Indian state Manipur's capital Imphal. It was 449 km away from Dhaka. 

USGS also said the tremors were felt in several places in India. In Bangladesh, several places in Dhaka, Chattogram, Gazipur, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, and Sylhet felt the quake.
