Travel embargo imposed on ex-RCC mayor Liton, family

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, his wife Shahin Akter, daughters Anika Fariha Zaman and Maisa Samiha Zaman over graft allegations.

After accepting a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Mozammil Hossain, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on Thursday.

The ACC in its plea said the anti-graft body is probing allegations against Liton and eight former lawmakers from Rajshahi for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 6,000 crore. 

During the investigation, the ACC found evidences of wealth beyond know sources of income against Liton and his family members.

The commission said the former mayor and his family members are trying to hand over, transfer their movable and immovable properties and travel ban should be imposed on them to deter from leaving the country.
