Modi reiterates India's support for democratic Bangladesh

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated the country's support for democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh, at a bilateral meeting held with Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Friday. 

Modi met with the CA for the first time since Sheikh Hasina's ouster at the meeting held on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. 

The two leaders discussed Sheikh Hasina's extradition, said Vikram Misri, India's foreign secretary. 

Addressing a special briefing on Modi's visit to Thailand, Misri said, "There were talks on Sheikh Hasina's extradition. Can't say more on that."

He further said that Modi had expressed India's concerns over the safety and security of minors, including Hindus in Bangladesh, during the meeting. 

"PM Modi reiterated India's support for democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh. He underlined India's desire to forge a positive and constructive relationship with Bangladesh. The PM also urged that any rhetoric that vitiates the environment is best avoided," Misri said.
