Bangladeshi tourist dies as bus overturns in India's Odisha

A Bangladeshi tourist was killed, and over 15 others sustained injuries after a bus carrying about 70 passengers overturned at Odisha's Bhubaneswar early on Sunday.

The accident occurred while the tourist bus was en route to Puri, Indian media Ommcom News reports. 

According to Sambad English, the bus overturned near Uttara on the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway at around 3 am. This media outlet claimed that more than 20 passengers sustained serious injuries. 

The injured have been rushed to Capital Hospital for medical attention.

After being informed, Emergency services, including police and fire brigade teams, responded to the incident and are currently engaged in rescue operations.

Meanwhile, tragedy struck again when one of the ambulances carrying the injured collided with the parapet of an overbridge near Shishu Bhavan Square. The passengers in that ambulance reportedly suffered further injuries due to the impact, Sambad English reports.

According to Ommcom, the bus was transporting tourists from Bangladesh who had visited Kashi Vishwanath and were heading to Puri. The group had travelled through ISKCON, Mayapuri, West Bengal before the tragic accident occurred.

Sambad English added that the pilgrims were from Chattogram. The accident occurred when the driver of the bus reportedly dozed off while driving, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into a roadside ditch.

The deceased tourist has been identified as a Bangladeshi national. Police are investigating the cause of the accident. The body has been sent to Capital Hospital for post-mortem.
