93 AL-affiliated lawyers surrender, plead for bail

A case was filed against a large number of Awami League-affiliated lawyers alleging attacks, vandalism, and murder attempts during the anti-discrimination student movement last year. Ninety-three such lawyers named in the case have surrendered at the court and pleaded for bail. 

They made the plea at Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain Galib's court on Sunday. A hearing will be held at 2 pm the same day. 

Among those who pleaded for bail are- former Dhaka Bar Chairman Saidur Rahman Manik, Gazi Shah Alam, Mahbubur Rahman, Abu Said Sagar, Asadur Rahman Rochi, Cyber Tribunal PP Nazrul Islam Shamim, and Morshed Hossain Shaheen. 

On August 4, Awami League lawyers allegedly attacked other lawyers at the court premises during the movement. In this connection, Dhaka Bar Association executive member Mohammad Ali Babu filed a case at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court against 144 lawyers on February 6.
