Court sends 71 pro-Awami League lawyers to jail

A Dhaka court has granted bail to ten pro-Awami League lawyers in a case filed by the capital's Kotwali Police Station on charges of attacks, vandalism and attempted murder during the anti-discrimination movement. 

Out of the ten people granted bail, nine are women lawyers.

In addition, the court has cancelled the bail of the remaining 71 out of the 93 accused. Out of 93 accused, 81 surrendered to the court, seeking bail.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order after a hearing on Sunday.

Dhaka Bar Association President Khorshed Mia Alam said that the accused sought bail, while the state opposed bail. After the hearing, the court was satisfied and granted bail to ten lawyers while it ordered the rest 71 to be sent to prison.
