Furniture shop fire at Bangshal under control, 18 rescued

A fire that broke out in a furniture shop in the capital's Bangshal area early on Monday was controlled.

Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) personnel rescued 18 persons who were injured due to suffocation in smoke.

FSCD media officer Khairul Islam Rony told BSS that the fire originated in a furniture shop on the ground floor of a five-storey building at Makrosha Bazar, Nazimuddin Road, Bangshal, Dhaka, at 4:10am

Seven fire engines from Siddiqbazar and Lalbagh fire stations rushed to the spot within two minutes after they received information and doused the flame at 4:50am, he said.

The firefighters did not let the fire spread to second to fifth floors which were residential flats, he said.

Asked about the cause behind the fire, he said that they primarily suspected that the fire originated due to an electric short circuit.

The extent of damage could not be ascertained immediately.
