Anondo Shobhajatra celebrates Bangla New Year

Dhaka University’s Faculty of Fine Arts launched the Anondo Shobhajatra on Monday morning, celebrating Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year, with festive mood. 

Previously called "Mangal Shobhajatra," the procession, this year, has been renamed "Borsho Boron Anondo Shobhajatra," sparking some controversy. 

Starting at 9:00am from the Charukola premises, the colorful march, joined by students, teachers, and diverse communities, will parade through Shahbagh, TSC, Central Shaheed Minar, and Doel Square, concluding at the Faculty of Fine Arts via Bangla Academy.

This year’s theme, "Symphony of the New Year, End of Fascism," reflects the July uprising and solidarity with Palestine. 

Notable motifs include the "Portrait of Fascism," depicting former PM Sheikh Hasina, and a dove symbolizing peace. 

The procession includes ethnic groups like Chakma, Marma, Santal, and Garo, alongside Bangladesh’s national women’s football team.

Pahela Baishakh, a vibrant national festival, unites people regardless of religion, sect, class, or creed to welcome the new year and celebrate the country’s cultural heritage.
