Assistant commissioner, additional SP arrested, sent to jail

Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Saiful Islam and Rangamati Additional Superintendent of Police Anirban Chowdhury have been arrested for ordering shooting in Narsingdi during the July Movement. 

The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered to send them to jail.

On Monday, Saiful Islam, the accused in the Narsingdi genocide case, was arrested and placed before the court. Later, the International Crimes Tribunal ordered to jsend him jail. The court also ordered to send Additional Superintendent of Police Anirban Chowdhury to jail on the same charges.

According to prosecution sources, Executive Magistrate Saiful Islam had directly ordered the police to shoot on the movement.

The Tribunal's Chief Prosecutor, Advocate Tajul Islam, confirmed the matter and said that some Executive Magistrates involved in giving the shooting order have already been identified. Legal action will be taken against them in phases.

Tahmid Bhuiyan, a 10th grade student, was killed in Narsingdi, a district adjacent to Dhaka, on July 18 during an anti-discrimination movement.
