As part of the ongoing movement to achieve six-point demand, agitating students of government and private polytechnic institutes have announced a nationwide 'railway blockade' program across the country on Thursday.
At the same time, they have withdrawn the road blockade as of Wednesday.
Zubayer Patwary, representative of the Technical Students' Movement, made the announcement at the Satrasta intersection in Tejgaon in the capital on Wednesday evening.
Zubayer said, “We had a meeting with the Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education Shoaib Ahmad Khan, Principal of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute Md Mostafizur Rahman and other concerned personalities. However, we could not agree on the issues with them in the meeting as they did not accept our demands. Therefore, we are announcing a railway blockade program on Thursday.”
At that time, he called on polytechnic students across the country to make the program a grand success.
The students of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute started the protest by taking up positions at the Satrasta intersection around 10:00am, forcing traffic to a standstill in several areas, including Mohakhali, Banani, Gulshan, Moghbazar, Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, Agargaon, Mirpur.
