Interpol issues red notice against former IGP Benazir

The Interpol has issued a red notice against former inspector general of Bangladesh Police Benazir Ahmed recently.

Assistant inspector general (Media and Public Relations) of Police Md Inamul Hauqe Sagar confirmed the matter to BSS on Tuesday.

He said National Central Bureau (NCB), a unit of the police headquarters (PHQ), submitted a request earlier to the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to issue a red notice against Benazir.

“We recently knew that the Interpol issued a red notice against former inspector general of Bangladesh Police Benazir Ahmed,” Sagar said.

Benazir served as the IGP from April 2020 to September 2022, after completing his tenure as the director general of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from 2015 to 2020.

While serving those positions, allegations about Benazir’s involvement in extrajudicial killing and enforced disappearance were raised.
