21 southern districts face two-hour 'blackout'

A national grid failure caused a two-hour power outage across 21 districts in southern Bangladesh, starting at 5:45 pm on Saturday, affecting Khulna and Barisal. 

Power began returning in some areas by 8 pm, said Mohammad Haider Ali, Managing Director of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL).

Haider Ali stated that a transmission line tripped in Amin Bazar, Dhaka, around 6 pm, triggering the blackout. 

Power restoration started gradually from 8 pm, but normal supply was not fully restored in all areas. 

The outage worsened conditions amid intense heat, disrupting electricity-dependent activities. 

A Khulna resident reported that power in the Dolkhola feeder area returned briefly after two hours but failed again after 15 minutes, the same problem was reported in multiple areas.
