Bangladesh hopes India-Pakistan issues to be resolved through dialogue

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain expressed Bangladesh's support for reducing tensions between India and Pakistan through dialogue. 

He noted that Bangladesh could mediate if both nations request assistance, but emphasised that without their consent, no initiative would be taken. 

Speaking to journalists at the Foreign Ministry on Sunday, Touhid Hossain reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to peace in South Asia, highlighting the long-standing issues between India and Pakistan and the desire to avoid major conflicts that could endanger the region. 

The foreign affairs adviser stressed that Bangladesh maintains good relations with both countries and prefers they resolve their disputes through talks, either bilaterally or with mediation. 

Touhid acknowledged mediation offers from Iran and Saudi Arabia but clarified that Bangladesh would not proactively assume a mediating role unless invited.

Regarding the impact of the India-Pakistan tension on Bangladesh, Touhid Hossain said global interconnectedness means some effects are inevitable, particularly in trade and commerce, but there is no direct impact as Bangladesh remains neutral. 

On importing from either country, he affirmed Bangladesh would pursue its interests. 

When asked about enhanced security measures along the Bangladesh-India border, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said he lacked specific information and suggested consulting security officials.
