Md Hazrat Ali made acting KUET VC

The government has appointed Md Hazrat Ali, a civil engineering professor at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), as the acting Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET). 

According to a Ministry of Education notification, Prof Hazrat Ali, a Grade-1 professor, will serve temporarily until a permanent vice-chancellor is appointed. 

He will receive his current salary and allowances, along with additional facilities, and is required to reside on the Kuet campus while performing his duties. He will be termed as the university’s chief executive officer. 

The president, also the university chancellor, reserves the right to terminate the appointment if necessary. 

This follows the recent dismissal of KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Masud and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Sheikh Shariful Alam amid student protests. 

A search committee will soon be formed to recommend candidates for permanent VC and pro-VC positions. Until the new appointment, the acting VC will oversee administrative and academic affairs.
