Actor Siddique sent to jail in attempted murder case

A Dhaka court has ordered the sending of actor Siddiqur Rahman Siddique to jail in a case of attempted murder of van driver Jabbar Ali Howlader in the capital's Gulshan during the anti-discrimination student movement. 

Police produced him before the court after a seven-day remand on Wednesday. 

The investigation officer of the case, Gulshan Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdus Salam, requested to keep him in jail. 

After the hearing, the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain granted the police's appeal and ordered him to be sent to jail.

Earlier, he was taken on a seven-day remand in the case on April 30. 

On the afternoon of April 29, some youths detained Siddique while he was passing through Bailey Road and later, he was handed over to Gulshan Police Station from Ramna Police Station.

According to the case statement, during the anti-discrimination movement on July 19 last year, shots were fired at protesters in front of Confidence Tower in Shahjadpur, Gulshan. Jabbar Ali Howlader was shot in the incident. 

Van driver Jabbar Ali Howlader filed a case with Gulshan Police Station against 109 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in the incident.
